Episode 31 - DJ Mani - No Dubstep in this Techno Mix

So many of my friends and customers at the music gear store I work keep asking me about Dub Step and this inspired me to a) not put any Dub Step songs in here and b) not make a Dub Step mix. Instead, I put together a techno mix of some songs given to me by a friend (2Kold!) and with the help of that intro from MC Robbi done on her lo-fi home setup. Tracks from Da Fresh, Gary Beck, Gerd, Henry Saiz, Joel Mull & Dustin Zahn, Luca M, Marc Romboy vs. Stephan Bodzin, Mark Broom, Space DJz, Thomas Shumacher, and Wolfgang Gartner's collaboration with Mark Knight. The last song is a little shout out to my boy Drop from NC. WERD UP FAM!

Not sure why this mix was made, but the only thing going on in the mind is thinking about changes.  It has been a long time since I had adequate gear to mix with and have been taking care of other facets of my life.  However, this mix is my rainy day mix or for days I just need some house.  Will Nicki Minaj sneak in? Of course. "Eye" love her.  Special thanks again to Robbi for the drops and I hope to get you DJ sets that I am more proud of as these are done with gear most would laugh at, however, they are for enjoyment purposes and for promotional use only.  I had a tracklisting written down somewhere, but will have to locate that.  It is an hour worth of deep house, with some vocals and closes with a Nicki track that says a lot to me.

DATE > 01.10.11 Before Birth

Some of you love bugglegum cookie-cutter dance music like a dead mouse and have no idea who Orlando Voorn is (maybe just err a "City in Florida" song on my favorite artist's album?)  Derrick May? Richie Hawtin? Underground Resistance? Who's that?  If you are gonna be about it, learn and read about it!  Here's a little taste.  More is gonna cost you fam!  MCMG added Scan 7 and Terrence Parker to the roster, so in the next few years, be prepared to be schooled.  Here's a few songs off my upcoming mix.

Episode 28 - DJ Mani_ House in My Room and Miss Minaj Too

This set was just a little mix of the house tunes that have been in my record box for this whole year and put together in "my room" and since Nicki Minaj's music has been heavily in rotation this past couple of weeks as her album is off the chain, I let Miss Minaj in the room too. I hope you enjoy the selection of songs. A special shout out to MC Robbi who hooked me up with a few drops and I kinda loved the lo-fi clicks so I ran with them. WERD!
Episode 27 - Mani (Live PA) feat. Vishal Joshi on Saxophone at Vision Nightclub circa 2005

In 2005, I played for Apocalypse on a lineup at Vision Nightclub that also had Space DJz from the UK and John Patterson on the lineup. I did my PA which was one of the last times I have done that in Chicago. Vishal Joshi accompanied me with his Saxophone which was routed through an effects rack. This was a fun night and have many fond memories from this set and night. I hope you enjoy it.

This mix starts out with a little bit of Hip Hop in the form of tracks that have my attention at the moment and at about 10-15 minutes in, the mix takes on a techno and house turn. Expect some Nelly, Nicki Minaj, Lupe Fiasco that takes a turn into some Mark Broom, Jeff Mills and the techno and house tracks that are moving me and my dance floors at the moment. Most of these mixes are done so I have something to listen to in the car. Peace & Respect - Mani

Opening the set in that Booka Shade mood quickly led way to some house and more harder techno. Any techno fan is in love with a genre of music that is understood worldwide, except in the good ole US of A. Sometimes, it can be frustrating, however, sometimes it is nice to be into obscure tunes that no one really knows. However, as always, you might find a shout out to Hov... as doubtful I would have made this mix today had it not been for hearing timely Jay-Z songs post 2004. "Eye" hope you enjoy this techno.

Opening with Alexis Jordan "Happiness" from StarRoc and closing with Memphis Bleek's "Still Ill" does not reflect this mix as there is a bunch of Deep House and Techno with some Dennis Ferrer and some classic tunes that have been in the crate recently. We hope you enjoy this one.

Thanks to a good friend of the store's (337-4-LIFE!), who I have gotten to know, I was able to quickly drop some deep house tracks into THA WERD podcast. Ron Hardy indeed lives and although some new tracks appear here rather than classics, this is an homage to the sound I grew up with thanks to working half a decade at Gramaphone Records and being a rave kid in Chicago. We indeed had a special movement in Chicago and always will. Enjoy tracks from Gramaphonedzie, ATFC, Analog People in A Digital World, Acumen and many others. Some may notice the "Ghetto Techno" surprise at the end. Jay-Z on Techno or House beats would be insane. Spread Tha Werd. Eye am MM DOT!

From a Jay Denham remix to Gui Boratto with Jamie Jones tossed in for good measure plus a variety of rare chilled out techno describe this mix by DJ Mani as he hit the decks ready for a "few days off from work"... We hope you enjoy this mix. Picture is taken at Vaishno Devi, India and with the guys that own the horses that take you up the mountain. #Diamonds Up if you are #ROC4LIFE

25 minutes of more commercial joints and club cuts.  This one was just recorded to bump on my way to work and since many friends have liked this one, I am also sharing it here.  There are some cuts here you would never expect me to play, however, I love all kinds of music, even those songs that gain commercial success.  Also I hope all have checked out http://www.mcmgcreative.com/artists.html as our roster has garrnered some top talent already and we have just started.

This is a live one-take of a set done out in Chicago in 2010. There are two parts to this with part two being far more housier, however, here is part one for your listening enjoyment. Spread Tha Werd >> The Word is Love and "Eye" love House music and Techno, and always will. It is sad that to find myself again, I had to separate from the love of my life, namely house and techno.

Special thanks to George Rivera, a good customer of ours from HP 337 who let me come by and dj with him on his new CDJ 2000s. It was truly a blessing to be able to DJ today and I thank him for that. I mixed the first 45 minutes or so when George came into my Danilo Vigorito track and took it to a deep house place, which was cool. This mix was a one take of a practice session. Enjoy.

This set was done with vinyl in the WNUR studios in 2005. It is perhaps the last time I had vinyl or the means to even be able to mix on decks on the regular as life brought changes and curveballs. I remember Nadia of Volatl and Pulz-8 being in the house. This is just a 128k file, yet somehow brings me back to how I felt around this time of my life. The mixing is not by any means "Carl Cox" perfect... My apologies... I just like the tracks and am sharing

This is a short PA with even a track that I tried to experiment Indian rhythms with techno. DJ Minx went on right after me and our agency (EAR) was responsible for having The Advent (live), Murat, Twonz and the Mitchell Brothers there, in addition to myself. It was very cool to perform live in the Pacific North-West many times.

Episode 2 - Mani Live PA from default_one >> 1st PA ever
Clean
April 02, 2009 11:16 PM PDT
itunes pic
This was the first live PA I ever did. On 01-01-2003, I decided I was going to get a Mac laptop as I was sick of struggling with drivers and my DAW in windows. On 02-15-2003, I got my first Mac. I do not have it any longer as it had broken some time in 2006. However, on 05-03-2003, I was on the Metro main stage, nervous as hell and also worried that the packed crowd would be pissed as two of the artists (The Advent and Steve Rachmad) were stuck in airport situations. That night, Rino Cerrone had the crowd entranced with 3 hours of 3 deck techno with the cycloops. Mike Dearborn dj'ed right after me and Marko Katic vs. Josh Werner were two artists who also played that night. This podcast is a recording of just my first time playing live, and incidentally also using an early version of ableton live, an alesis air fx, a motu 828, a Mackie 1604 mixer, a BBE 362 maximizer and just some quick creative ideas manifested first as loops and varied to create scenes. Enjoy
